SplitRoster privacy policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
SplitRoster is an app where flatmates and the people who manage shared homes keep track of expenses, rent, chores and shopping together. This page says what we keep and why, who sees it, and how to delete it.
What we keep
Only what the app needs to work:
- Your account: your name, email address, password (only as a one-way hash), language, time zone and notification settings.
- If you add one, your profile photo. Photos are saved anew, without details such as where they were taken.
- If you add them, your payment details (PayID, account name, BSB and account number, IBAN, PayPal.me link, a note). People in your homes see them, so they can pay you.
- If you buy Plus in the App Store or Google Play: which plan, when it starts and ends, and the store's purchase ID. Apple or Google takes the payment; we never see your card.
- What you and your flatmates enter in a home: expenses, bills, receipt photos, payments, rent and bond records, move-in and move-out dates, chores, shopping lists, board notes, polls, comments, agreements and signatures.
- To send you notifications: your phone's notification token, its platform and the app version.
- The server's technical logs (such as IP addresses and request times), for security and finding faults.
What we don't keep
We don't collect your location, your contacts or an advertising ID. The app has no ads, tracking or analytics. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who sees it
What's in a home is seen by the people in it. In a managed home, rent and bond records are seen by the tenant they belong to and the home's managers.
The information is kept on a server we rent. To run the app we use these services, and each gets only what its job needs:
- Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging deliver notifications to your phone (its notification token and the notification text).
- Resend sends emails such as verification codes (your email address and the email).
- The Apple App Store and Google Play: we ask them about a Plus purchase (by its purchase ID) to confirm it.
- The European Central Bank: we fetch exchange rates from it; nothing about you is sent.
- jsDelivr or Cloudflare: we fetch rates for currencies the European Central Bank doesn't publish from a public table they serve; nothing about you is sent.
Security
Everything between the app and the server travels encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords and email codes are only stored as hashes.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete account; the account deletion page has the details.
Deleting your account removes your name, email address, password, profile photo, payment details, Plus purchase records, settings and your phones. Expenses and payments in shared homes stay, without your name, because your flatmates’ balances rest on them. A home with nobody else in it is deleted completely.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription bought in a store; cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.
Backups of the server are kept for at most 5 weeks, so deleted information leaves them within that time.
Your rights
You can see, correct and delete your information in the app, and download a home's statement as a PDF or CSV.
